It is more than just selecting a solution and an integrator.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"216\" src=\"https:\/\/sconseilsdo.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/questions-1024x216.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1263\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sconseilsdo.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/questions-1024x216.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sconseilsdo.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/questions-300x63.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sconseilsdo.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/questions-768x162.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sconseilsdo.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/questions.jpg 1307w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In my experience, <strong>if these questions are not answered properly <\/strong>within the scope of a selection project, there is <strong>a high risk of failure <\/strong>or &lt;so-so&gt; results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The first step in any ERP transformation should, in my opinion, start with a broader technology strategy (described in the previous Section 1).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The selection process itself can take place in several possible variants:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-f56f613f wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">A &#8211; Pre-selected system option<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"73\" height=\"60\" src=\"https:\/\/sconseilsdo.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/ERP-Option1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1269\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In some industries, there is a clear leader who dominates and delivers the best capabilities and value. This often reduces the potential trading leverage though<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">B &#8211; is of little value because all of them support it.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>List functions in scope and non-standard critical requirements and more advanced ones<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1698708b7919f2dab174b0481dd37a9f\"><strong>Flowcharting all AS-IS processes is rarely worth the effort<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"81\" height=\"73\" src=\"https:\/\/sconseilsdo.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Flow.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1289\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Focus on future differentiated processes and only those that are unique to leading practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The modern approach to ERP implementation is to adapt processes to key leading practices (Fit-to-STD)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Focus the AS-IS on key gaps and what needs to change<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-975890b0ed70013a713db38520a73f7c\"><strong>Plan to validate and clarify the reply of vendors<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"84\" height=\"84\" src=\"https:\/\/sconseilsdo.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Vendors.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1291\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Most suppliers will not respond to a Request for Proposal (RFP) with a response &lt;not supported&gt; unless this is clearly the case.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When they have partial coverage, or a grey area, there may be room for interpretation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Plan to read, validate and clarify the comments on each response so that the results can be properly evaluated<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:23px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-f56f613f wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-487a21d5287ec7e29d0d65493f17e9ce\"><strong>Structure demos around use cases and scripts<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"80\" height=\"69\" src=\"https:\/\/sconseilsdo.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Script.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1295\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3d20bb94108d939d38aa0e5feb84cc41\">An unstructured demo is not a good idea because the emphasis will be otherwise mainly on the strengths<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop scripts based on end-to-end processes and daily value streams with a few exceptions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give suppliers the flexibility to adjust the sequence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It will be easier to compare coverage and performance.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8e9fa1a3429b69fda5d818b98f21c5f0\"><strong>Build a quantitative evaluation framework to remove subjective bias<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"82\" height=\"63\" src=\"https:\/\/sconseilsdo.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Rank.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1296\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Form a selection committee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evaluate each phase of the process according to a clear framework to eliminate subjectivity as much as possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plan for non-functional criteria such as total cost of ownership (TCO) and user experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use appropriate weights according to criticality and remain flexible<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-base-color has-primary-to-black-gradient-background has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-ad8d983cf6a8e45b602b061f03aa067b\"><strong>A typical ERP strategy &amp; Although this can be changed later on and the client can ask for another integrator to provide alternate pricing evaluation or participate in an integrator selection process, because of the investment needed it&#8217;s not a common practice, and most integrator who participate in this initial selection process of the winning ERP vendor end up doing the integration work.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-xx-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u00b3 Considers some efficiencies when tech strategy and ERP selection are done as one combined integrated project<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A successful ERP journey starts by asking and answering the right questions.
